The newly redesigned 2021 GMC Yukon is bigger and better than ever, with a roomier cabin and a newly available turbodiesel engine. This full-size SUV also treats families to plush, supportive seating and kid-friendly entertainment options. And it’s equally capable of traveling off-road trails and towing heavy trailers.
What’s new for the 2021 GMC Yukon?
Fully redesigned for 2021, the GMC Yukon is both roomier and more refined than ever before. When it comes to power and performance, the Yukon has always excelled. This year’s updates aim to make your daily drive a more luxurious one.
Technically, this new model is 6.1 inches longer than the outgoing version. What does that mean for you? Well, more legroom, for starters. Now tall passengers can sit in all three rows with nary a complaint.
Why choose the 2021 GMC Yukon?
Get the GMC Yukon because you’re looking for a modern, refined three-row SUV. The Yukon offers comfortable seating for your big family, but it’s also sturdy and capable. Its engine options supply impressive power, whether for speeding into highway traffic or pulling your boat to the beach.
The Yukon also has plenty of options, with seating configurations for seven to nine passengers. You can also shop four trim models: the base SLE, mid-level SLT, sporty AT4, and luxurious Denali.
The entry-level SLE is handsomely equipped with roomy, supportive seating and modern infotainment gear. Its standard infotainment system includes a 10.2-inch touch screen and smartphone compatibility with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
The SLT adds the GMC Pro Safety Plus package, which provides safety aids like blind-spot monitoring and lane departure mitigation. The SLT also adds luxury, with leather upholster, heated and ventilated front seats, and a hands-free liftgate.
If you’re longing for adventure, the AT4 is ready for action. The Yukon’s off-road-ready model comes standard with four-wheel drive, adaptive suspension dampers, and all-terrain tires.
Finally, there’s the upscale Denali. This top-of-the-line Yukon upgrades performance with a bigger V8 engine. The Denali also enhances your daily drive with a 14-speaker Bose premium audio system and navigation.
What’s under the hood? How much can the 2021 GMC Yukon tow?
Three of the Yukon’s four trim models — the SLE, SLT, and AT4 — come standard with the same 5.3-liter V8 engine. Its 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque are more than enough to propel this big SUV into fast-moving highway traffic.
For even more power, check out the top-trim Denali, which is the only Yukon to feature the bigger 6.2-liter V8 engine. Its 420 horses and 460 pound-feet of torque offer even more impressive speed.
This year, shoppers can also choose the newly optional turbodiesel 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine. It produces a tow-friendly output of 277 horses and 460 pound-feet of torque. It’s also the thriftiest engine option, helping the Yukon achieve up to 23 mpg combined (21 city/27 highway mpg).
The Yukon comes standard with rear-wheel drive. But sporty four-wheel drive is an option for every trim model — except for the AT4. The off-road-ready AT4 comes standard with four-wheel drive.
The Yukon can put all its power to good use, too, with tow ratings of up to 8,400 pounds. If you’ve got a huge trailer or boat to transport, make sure to add the Max Trailering Package.
Are the Yukon and Tahoe the same?
Both full-size SUVs are produced by General Motors, and they have a lot in common. Their bones are essentially the same, and both provide world-class passenger space and a smooth, powerful performance. But the Yukon is the classier SUV, with its increasingly luxurious accommodations and styling.
