Cadillac has gone electric! Both the 2024 Cadillac Celestiq and 2024 Cadillac Lyriq are ultra-luxurious, but which one should you choose? One is already out, and one is on its way, but let’s break down the details of both.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
- The Cadillac Celestiq will have a limited run and has yet to be released.
- The Celestiq is made to buyer specifications—no two will ever be alike.
- The Lyriq is considerably more affordable of the two models.
Which One Is Available?
Of the two EVs, the Cadillac Lyriq is in its second year, while the Celestiq has yet to roll off the assembly line. (That should happen sometime this year, as production began in late 2023.)
The Lyriq has seen some changes since its itinerant run. In 2023, there was only one trim package—the Debut Edition. Today, the Lyriq boasts three trims—the Tech, Luxury and Sport. The new model range features a variety of new wheel and paint options, and new bells and whistles in its interior and tech. These options include:
- Tri-zone climate control
- Heated rear seats
- Nappa Leather Package
- Adaptive headlights
- Panoramic power sunroof
The Lyriq Boasts Comfort and Style
The upscale Lyriq’s door panels and center console feature a mix of elegant brightwork and open-pore wood. Both the front and back feature a touchscreen, and there’s plenty of head and legroom for even the tallest of occupants. Seating is supportive with ample padding. The Lyriq is quiet—it is an EV, after all—but comes with an advanced noise cancellation system and a standard fixed-glass roof.
The Lyriq’s interior has a whopping 33-inch display with a user-friendly Google-based interface, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and a 5G Wi-Fi hotspot. To round out this luxurious picture, you have the option of an AKG Studio 19-speaker audio system.
What We Know About the Upcoming Celestiq
Currently, the Celestiq has a waitlist and is custom-crafted for its owner, which means no two will ever be alike. But make no mistake—this is an ultra-luxury sedan. A limited number will be made and the car is in direct competition with the Rolls Royce.
It’s rumored to offer four climate controlled areas—each occupant has their own climate controls. Other features include:
- An electrochromic (smart glass) sunroof with fixed glass
- A 55-inch display for the infotainment system and digital instrument cluster, with 12.6-inch infotainment screens for back passengers
- A 38-speaker AKG Studio Reference stereo system
The Celestiq will also feature a first for Cadillac in its active roll control system, as well as active rear steering, adaptive air ride, adaptive air suspension and magnetic ride control.
Unlike a standard trunk or cargo space, passengers in the Celestiq can easily access the cargo area when the car is in operation. The Celestiq’s back seats are bucket seats and passengers can easily reach behind them to access the cargo and trunk area.
Price Points for the Celestiq and the Lyriq
The Lyriq’s price points are in line with most other SUVs on the market:
- Tech: $58,590
- Luxury: $62,690
- Sport: $63,690
The Celestiq is considerably more expensive (as we said previously, it’s competing with Rolls Royce.) Cadillac has stated it will be at least $340,000. Why? It’s hand built in Warren, Michigan at GM's Global Technical Center, and it’s the production car to be made at the center since 1956.
Performance and Range of the Lyriq and Celestiq
We do not yet know the performance and range specs for the Celestiq, but Cadillac states that it will get over 300 miles on one charge and a battery size of 111 kWh. The Celestiq is said to have an electric dual-motor all-wheel drive powertrain that delivers 600 ponies with 640 lb-ft of torque.
In comparison, the Lyric has a 102 kWh battery and two powertrains to choose from—a 340-horsepower engine that delivers 325 lb-ft of torque and a 500-horsepower, dual-motor powertrain with 450 lb-ft of torque. The standard powertrain gets about 314 miles on a full charge, while the dual-motor powertrain (available in all three trim packages) gets 307 miles.
